Light box for Hedkandi, Ibiza

Another cool commission from Honest Entertainment, a light box to be the main feature behind the Dj booth at Es Paradis cub in Ibiza.
I created an infinity light box which incorporated the Hedkandi signature star disappearing into an infinite void. The stars were energized by UV light, really Blue/ black light like the kind that really makes your T shirt light up in night clubs.
The infinity was created by using mirrors, on the rear of the box is a standard piece of mirrored acrylic and in front of that a piece of 2 way mirror, like the ones you get in interrogation rooms so that you can see in but the "perps" cannot see out. In between the 2 mirrors are the UV lights and they then give the stars their glow which is then repeated endlessly by the 2 mirrors working together and bouncing the image front and back and front and back etc.
Unfortunately I was unable to go out to Ibiza to fit the finished item so the pictures of it in situation will follow shortly. But for now, check out images at this link..............http://www.hedkandi.com/GalleryFolder/Gallery.aspx?id=39
The initial plans for the construction.

First unit constucted and tested. Its a pretty good effect even with all the lights in the workshop on, imagine what it will look like in a dark club.

A close up of the stars, you can see the mirror images repeating into infinity.

The illusionists desk

The brief, a floating desk in the study. The floor of the study has 2 glass panels looking down into the kitchen and dining area so the desk had to look as good from the underside as on the top.
I had the metal work chaps in the railway arch round the corner knock me up a bracket which could be fixed the wall and hold up the desk without the need for legs.
All in all, a very nice piece to make and the client was over the moon with the end result.

Back to my roots

Late last year I was commissioned to build a number of pieces of furniture for a client in west London. The projects have been on going and I finished the final piece last week.

The property is a beautifully restored Regency style home in Bayswater just off Westbourne park road. The restoration has been completed to a very high standard by a very talented building firm, Re-build and was project managed by Costa who I have thanks for the initial contact. There has been some stunning restoration of all the period features as well as an addition of a very contemporary rear extension.
The shutters were bought on the Portabello road and were in a right state when I took collection of them. Four days later and a lot of sanding and filling, they were restored back to there former understated glory.

The wardrobes are a combination of doors which were salvaged from a wall of fitted units in the clients previous property and new elements manufactured by myself.
Every door needed to be modified and was given a fresh coat of pre catalyst paint and laquer.

Once the wardrobes had been completed I moved on to coat cupboard, fitted into an alcove of the first floor landing and a tri-folding door set to cover the mass of electrics and computer servers in the basement. Both units utilized the same style, reclaimed doors as on the wardrobes in the bedroom and bathroom

By far, one of the most interesting peices of furniture that Ive made for a while was a fire place surround which was built to match a marble surround and harth which had been fitted in the front drawing room.

Charlie Brooker studio set

Yesterday, at some stupid hour of the morning, I arrived at Broadley studios in Marlybone, London.
The brief was to get a small set built and set dressed in a morning. Simple you'd think but you can see the amount of props on the set and the continuity had to be spot on! All credit to Charlotte for having the patience to deal with the final details, it was begining to make my head hurt. Sorry for the bad camera phone pictures.

Va va voom...

The bits that you don't see.
The second week in January provided me with my first Television commercial work of 2011. I was one of small team of carpenters on the set of a new Renault ad featuring Thierry Henry and Dita Von Tesse among other celebrities.

You should not try this at home!
